On January 31, 2022, our grassroots group submitted an Initiative to the San Benito County Elections Office. The title of this citizens Initiative is Let Voters Decide How San Benito County Grows. Over 20 years ago, three California counties (Ventura, Napa and Sonoma) passed similar initiatives to put major land use decisions in the hands of their citizens. Today, these counties still have significant agriculture and open space, and their citizens are happier with their quality of life than citizens in other counties near metropolitan areas. We hope to follow in their footsteps.
You can read the new Initiative (Let Voters Decide How San Benito County Grows) here.
Our volunteers will start collecting petition signatures for this iniative in late February. Please contact us if you'd like to help. We hope to be on the ballot this November 8, 2022.
The photos on the right show our volunteers in outside of the County Elections Office. Due to COVID, only 4 members of our group were allowed inside the Elections Office to submit paperwork for our new initiative.
Many thanks to our 5 proponents who lent their name to the initiative petition. They are passionate about protecting our beautiful county and long time residents.
