About Us

Protect San Benito County is an all-volunteer grassroots group that's been working to protect San Benito County's ecosystems and agricultural lands since 2014. Many of us have lived in the area for decades and care deeply for our local community and environment. We wish to protect our agricultural heritage, our cultural heritage, our natural heritage, and our rural quality of life.

Our group works with these environmental groups:

  • Wildlife Conservation Network

  • Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter

  • Amah Mutsun Tribal Band

  • Indian Canyon Nation (South of Hollister)

  • Center for Biological Diversity

  • Green Foothills

  • Gilroy Growing Smarter

  • South Bay Indigenous Solidarity

  • Local Audubon Societies (Monterey & Santa Clara Valley)

We invite you to join us!

Our History

Many members of Protect San Benito County have worked as volunteers for many years to improve the quality of life of San Benito County residents. Our attorneys helped us form a 501c(4) to more effectively work on political campaigns (Campaign to Protect San Benito). Our volunteers worked successfully on these past efforts to protect and improve our county:

  • No on Measure N (Nov. 2020)

  • No on Measure K (March 2020)

  • Monterey Bay Community Power (2017)

  • Yes on Measure J (ban fracking in 2014)
